A masterclass on climate communication was delivered by Dr Stacy-ann Robinson, Dr Tyrone Hall and Mr Ferdinand L Bondoy during CIPR International's webinar on Communicating climate change: Are messages falling on deaf ears, on 27 January 2026. It is a must watch for practitioners working in this area.
There were crucial takeaways which should form the bedrock of approaches and planning for climate campaign. Among them are:
The importance of context and the correct use of technical language
The responsibility communicators have to truly understand the issues and interpret the technical terms correctly
The dangers of painting a picture of doom and gloom, and its debilitating effects
The value of affirming constructive action
Engaging stakeholders actively and vibrantly for real and impactful messaging
Respecting community and local leadership in communicating climate risk and impact
That communicators should invest in gaining solid grasp of the issues, collaborate with scientists and leaders on the front line in order to build their own expertise in this critical area.
There is so much more to consider and we invite you to prioritise learning from this vibrant conversation.
