CIPR International to set up network in Mauritius
Samantha Seewoosurrun, Managing Director of Acuitas Communications, has been voted on to the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ (CIPR) International Committee and will shortly set up a local network in Mauritius. The vote took place at a CIPR International meeting in London in August 2018.
The CIPR International Committee aims to support CIPR members working in different sectors within the global communications industry, to facilitate understanding of cultural differences, build relations with other countries, and help members benchmark, share and learn from best practice. The voluntary multicultural committee is generally located within London, with co-opted members based overseas, currently in Singapore, the USA, Switzerland, Jamaica, and now Mauritius.
Shirley Collyer, Chair of the CIPR International Committee said: “Skills development is one of CIPR International’s key objectives, and I’m impressed with Samantha’s determination and drive to support her fellow PR practitioners in Mauritius. We’re delighted to welcome her to the Committee and I look forward to working with her.”

Samantha Seewoosurrun added: “The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has been pursuing excellence in the profession for the past 70 years, and it is a great honour to have been voted on to the International Committee, as the first committee member based in an African country.”
“In the light of the reputational challenges facing Mauritius, I believe that the time is ripe for PR professionals across the island, across all sectors, to reinforce their knowledge and skills to project a positive image of Mauritius both at home and abroad. CIPR offers a great opportunity to share best practice and to network and learn from other PR practitioners who are operating across Europe, Asia, the USA and the Middle East.”
“I will set up a local network in Mauritius over the coming weeks and also intend to establish a mentoring scheme for practitioners who are new to the profession to provide guidance on their early steps in the dynamic field of public relations. I’m particularly pleased that Shirley and the International Committee have agreed that I’ll have the opportunity to share webinars on ethics, reputation management and other best practice materials with PR practitioners within my network in Mauritius.”
The British High Commissioner to Mauritius, H.E. Keith Allan, said: “I was pleased to hear that Samantha Seewoosurrun, Managing Director of Acuitas Communications, has been elected to the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ (CIPR) International Committee. This is good news for Samantha and also for Mauritius. I understand CIPR International will shortly establish a local network in Mauritius. This is a very welcome development and a good example of another UK-based educational and professional institution seeking to contribute to the upskilling of the PR community in Mauritius.”
